Nursery schools

The Food for Life Catering Mark offers nurseries the opportunity to reassure parents. It provides a unique guarantee that food being served to their children is free from undesirable e-numbers, at least 75% of meals are freshly prepared and no artificial trans fats or GM ingredients are used.

Almost one quarter of British children are overweight or obese by the time they start primary school. But there are currently no government standards for food served in nursery schools.

We know children need to get into good eating habits early on, to give them the best start in life. The Catering Mark offers nurseries an independent award to confirm that what’s on the menu for children in your care is fresh, healthy and better for animal welfare.

The Food for Life Catering Mark has already transformed school meals for several hundred thousand children in England.

Have a look at our Better Nursery Food Now campaign to find out more about why good food is so important for the under fives.
