The Raw Chocolate Company wins 2 Gold Stars in Great Taste Awards

01 October 2013

Congratulations to the Raw Chocolate Company who won 2 gold stars for their new Goji Berry & Orange Raw Chocolate Bar in the 2013 Great Taste Awards.

The Great Taste Awards is a rigorous awards scheme involving over 40 judges and panels of specialists from top chefs and cookery writers, to food critics and restaurateurs, who spend hours blind tasting the unlabelled products. The judges are presented with a product and they will taste, confer and re-taste the products before making the decision as to whether the product will go ahead and be awarded either 1, 2 or 3 stars. There must be general consensus between the judges for a product to gain an award. This year, out of almost 10,000 products entered into the awards, just 600 received the 2 star award, The Raw Chocolate Company included.

When evaluating the products, the judges are looking for great texture and appearance, they will judge the quality of ingredients and how well the maker has put the food or drink together; but above all, they are looking for great taste.

Linus Gorpe, Founder of the Raw Chocolate Company said: “We are honoured and stunned to receive this recognition and award. The judges’ comments were amazing. We set out in 2006 to make the very best chocolate; to this end we use only the purest ingredients and nothing artificial. Our organic, fair-trade Goji Berry & Orange Bar has only 5 ingredients: cacao, cacao butter, coconut sugar, goji berries and orange. What is more exciting is that we use the same basic recipe and techniques for all our six raw chocolate bars, so the award is also a reflection on our entire range. We’ve got a high standard to maintain now!”

And what did the judges have to say:
“A well balanced chocolate bar, very rich and bitter.”
“The goji comes through the dark chocolate nicely.”
“Well tempered with a good snap. Gorgeous.”
“Lovely crack when broken, high quality chocolate.”

The Raw Chocolate Company was established in 2006 and makes pure chocolate bars, using Raw Chocolate berries and bagged supreme foods. As well as being a Soil Association licensee, all their products are vegan, most are Fair-trade and Organic, and their factory is renewably powered.
