Chain of custody

The Chain of Custody (CoC) connects responsible forest management practices to the consumers. Chain of Custody certification involves carefully tracking material from certified forests and woodlands through all stages of processing through to the final product and retail site. Compliance with the FSC® or PEFC Chain of Custody Standard is a requirement for companies which process or trade certified products and wish to label their products with the FSC or PEFC logo.

FSC Controlled Wood

If FSC certified products also contain non-certified material this material must have met the Controlled Wood Standard. This ensures that FSC 'MIX' products do not contain:

  • Illegally harvested wood
  • Wood harvested in violation of traditional and civil rights
  • Wood harvested in forests in which High Conservation Values (areas particularly worth of protection) are threatened through management activities
  • Wood harvested from conversion of natural forests
  • Wood harvested from areas where genetically modified trees are planted

PEFC

Woodmark has been accredited to certify to PEFC CoC standards in many countries around the world. We have issued over 300 PEFC CoC certificates worldwide.
